  2. Find the picture that shows a volcano. Put a ✔on it.
  3. Find the picture that shows a hot spring. Mark it with an ✘.
  4. Look at the last box. Circle the words that tell you what natural means.

Hands-on Activity: Send an All-American Postcard!

Skill: writing and drawing

Materials: Send an All-American Postcard! skill sheet, pencils, crayons, glue

  • Invite kids to pretend they went to see one of the natural wonders in the issue and have them send a postcard! To make the postcards, cut the sheet on the dotted line and fold together on the solid line. Glue the insides together so you have a card that can be flipped over.
  • First, invite kids to choose which place from the issue they’d like to visit. On the front, have them write the name of the state (Wyoming, California, Texas, Hawaii, or Arizona). Then have them draw a picture of the natural wonder.
  • On the other side, have kids fill in the blanks to complete the card. On the first line, they can write the name of the natural wonder. On the second line, they can write a fact about it from the issue (for example, "the trees are the tallest in the world"), or something they observed in the photo (for example, "the spring is the colors of the rainbow").
  • Let children give their postcards to the recipient they choose!
